After nearly 24 hrs of traveling in 3 planes, 1 bus, 1 train and a taxi, my mother and I finally arrived in Metz. It was rough finding our way around at first, and our french was a bit rusty, but we managed to get me all checked into my new room and had some time to explore downtown Metz. While the Georgia Tech (GTL) campus is ~meh~ at best (and out in the suburbs--booooo), La Republique aka Centre-ville aka downtown Metz is gorgeous and lovely and oh so ~french~.
It's funny how you can take so many photos in the moment and be so overly confident about how clear and usable and awesome they are until you view them on a screen greater than 3in wide and see how blurry, unusable and not so awesome 5/6 of them are. Ah, so goes the life of a bad photographer...

Mom munching on a croissant provided by our last flight. That's right,
our last 1hr flight from Munich to Luxemburg gave us croissants AND
sandwiches on baguettes. American and Delta airlines, I hope you are both taking notes.
